The National Music Museum in Lisbon, Portugal, is an institution under the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage (Direção-Geral do Património Cultural - DGPC) and it saves one of the riches instrument collections in Europe, as well as collections of music scores, phonograms, iconography and several other documentation related to the music universe.
Since 26th july 1994, it's placed in the underground station of Alto dos Moinhos, benefitting from a patronage agreement signed between the former Portuguese Institute of Museums and the Lisbon Metro. The Museum is now preparing to move to the Royal Building of Mafra.
The National Music Museum aims to preserve, study and communicate its cultural assets to promote musical heritage. This mission has been developed in actions of conservation and restoration, incorporation of new works, investigation projects and publications, as well as in the promotion and organising of scientific meetings, temporary exhibitions, educational activities and recitals. |
