Frederico de Freitas: 1902-1980

4 June 2003 - 6 December 2003

Frederico de Freitas was one of the most complete and versatile figures of the history of Portuguese music of the 20th century, where he left his mark as a composer, chief of orchestra, pedagogue, musicologist, articulist and music critic.

100 years after the birth of the composer, the Music Museum embraced the task of organising an exhibition with documents evoking this unique figure. The exhibition had the collaboration of his daughter, Elvira de Freitas, who temporarily yielded part of the asset for study.

The exhibition sought to reflect the multiple sides of Frederico de Freitas, recurring to samples such as photos, music scores, his last note-book, concert programmes and newspaper cuttings, duely organised in six exhibition areas.
